CBS Sketch Comedy Showcase Audition Workshop presented by CBS • Restricted Access. By Invitation Only
The objective of this workshop is to give actors an idea of what is expected of them when auditioning for the CBS Sketch Comedy Showcase in January. If cast, the process is rigorous and you are expected to come in with material/ideas, be an active participant. Rehearsals begin in the Fall to ensure the best possible material is developed for the showcase.
The workshop is an invaluable tool and an AMAZING opportunity to gain insight!
It is critical that you come prepared and not just try to “wing it” the day of.
Actors should prepare 1-3 minutes of comedic character work. Original material is best.
Do NOT prepare a comedic monologue from a play since the showcase is really based on original material. (Think Saturday Night Live).
Please bring your headshot and resume the day of.

A conversation with Chicana filmmaker Cristina Ibarra and award-winning writer Sandra Salas will cover the process of filming and producing a documentary and how being Latina impacts the process.
How do you craft richly textured documentaries featuring nuanced, emotionally-driven and in-depth subjects and their stories? As Latina storyteller, how do you build a sustainable career producing documentaries? In firechat conversation, the panelists will discuss their personal journey and creative process. Appealing to both emerging and veteran storytellers, their case studies will include their approach from concept development and fundraising to production and distribution.
5:30 pm – 6:50 pm Documentary Feature Film Screening: Memories of a Penitent Heart
The film is directed by Cecilia Aldarondo will be introduced by Luis Ortiz (LPB)
Combining a wealth of recently discovered home movies, video, and written documents with artfully shot contemporary interviews and vérité footage, 'Memories of a Penitent Heart' is a documentary that cracks open a Pandora’s box of unresolved family drama. Originating from filmmaker Cecilia Aldarondo’s suspicion that there was something ugly in her family’s past, the film charts her excavation of the buried family conflict around her uncle Miguel’s death, and her search for Miguel’s partner Robert a generation later. A story about the mistakes of the past and the second chances of the present, MEMORIES OF A PENITENT HEART is a cautionary tale about the unresolved conflicts wrought by AIDS, and a nuanced exploration of how faith is used and abused in times of crisis.
